5 steps to an excellent understanding of maths

- Achievements and Certificates
Many topics now include Maths Diagnostic Tests that test students' knowledge of the principles that will be taught in that topic. Questions are presented on screen for students to either type in the answer or complete a task using drag and drop. Some questions include multiple parts.
Students receive instant feedback on their performance in each question and receive a full printable report at the end of the test.
The report highlights specific ConquerMaths lessons that need to be taken to have a full and good understanding of the topic.
Every lesson is consistent in style using simple animation and all are narrated by the same expert maths teacher, Pat Murray.
The lessons are kept short, around 3 to 7 minutes long, we've found this is the optimal length needed to keep students engaged for the duration.
Students are given full control over the pace of each lesson. They can Pause and Rewind the teacher whenever they begin to struggle and rewatch and relisten to any part of any lesson as often as needed.
After watching the lesson, it's extremely important to make sure that everything made sense. ConquerMaths tests what students have just learnt using an automated test.
With most Primary lessons, this involves several randomly generated questions at the end of each lesson. Students' enter their answers on screen and receive immediate feedback.
For most Secondary lessons, students are given a worksheet that they can optionally print out. We always recommend completing answers on paper following each step required to get to the right answer. Once complete, students enter their results into the system for immediate feedback.
In both cases, the results are stored in an on-going progress report for each student. This provides a full and useful record of learning and achievement.
After worksheet answers have been submitted and students have reached a required level, printable fully worked solutions become available showing every step which should be taken to reach the correct answer, just as it should be done in a maths exam.
These are a great help for students as they enable students to identify problems in their working out.
They are an extremely important part of the learning process where more complex questions are involved and assist students with other problem solving exercises.
As students progress through the lessons and master each topic, they win certificates based on their achievements. These can be printed out and kept. They are an excellent reminder of how much improvement has been made. They are also an excellent confidence builder and help students remember that they can be successful in their maths study.
When students get these certificates and achievements... give them a pat of the back for it, they've worked hard and they deserve it!
