For many students, secondary school maths can be a challenge, even if their experience at primary school gave no cause for concern. This is often because it is only at secondary school that it becomes clear that some elements within the primary experience of maths were not fully understood.

Thus if one cannot teach the cumulative rules, principles and formulas that are taught throughout the secondary years and know that they are based on a firm understanding of the key stage 2 curriculum, then inevitably the student will fall behind.
