Who it's for - Dyscalculia
Dyscalculia is a Developmental Difficulty, with various different possible contributory factors, which results in a person finding it much harder to understand mathematical concepts than might be expected, given that person's age and intellectual ability.
About 6% of the population is thought to be dyscalculic.
All schools in the UK are under an obligation to provide suitable education for all pupils with special needs. Although the provision of a statement from an educational psychologist that a pupil or student does have a need can help, it is not essential to have such a statement. It can help both you and the school understand the nature of the need - but it does not of itself get the help that might be needed.
Certainly everyone with dyscalculia can be helped through ConquerMaths, whether they have a statement or not.
Many of the processes used in ConquerMaths are those which are used in working with dyscalculic students, and include breaking the topics down into small units, and working through the logical sequence of activities so that the student is never asked to undertake work without knowing the fundamentals on which it is based.
We strongly recommend ConquerMaths for students who are dyscalculic or who are suspected of being dyscalculic. The individual tutorials that such students receive are ideally suited to helping such students and can result in very rapid progress which cannot be achieved through normal classroom teaching.
